Taking care of your Scottish terrier

Scottish terriers’ looks can be compared to a miniature schnauzer’s—the sturdy medium sized body and especially the distinct facial fur in the muzzle part. Because of its double coat, regular grooming is required to take care of it. The following are some Scottish terrier grooming tips:

1. The first of many Scottish terrier grooming tips is to regularly brush its coat. This would eliminate tangles and matting and remove shedding hair. Make sure to brush your pet particularly behind the elbows, under the stomach and between the hind legs.

2. Second agenda in Scottish terrier grooming is to bathe him, once every two weeks or so. Always remember to brush his coat before and after bathing, using a blow dry for the latter. Brush his hair against the grain until dry, and then brush toward the grain to finish grooming him. Use a tear free shampoo that won’t dry his skin.

3. Trim his nails regularly. Nail file can also be used. If you accidentally clip him, stop the bleeding by applying clotting powder.

4. Scottish terriers are mostly prone to having ticks and fleas. Ask your veterinarian for flea vaccinations or flea control products. These products may a flea control collar, powder, or shampoo.

5. The last and most important factor in the list of Scottish terrier grooming tips is to groom its eyebrows properly. Its eyebrows give the Scotties its distinct look, resembling two triangles. Ask your veterinarian or a professional pet grooming salon to help you out with it.
