Tips in caring for your terrier puppy

Officially, there are 36 known kinds of terrier breeds certified by the American Kennel Club (AKC). These are considered pure-bred. Their differences are determined through size, shades, and height. But no matter what particular breed, all of them need to be kept healthy to ensure long and enjoyable companionship. It all begins with feeding your terrier puppies properly for them to gain healthy weight.

As owners, seeing your terrier puppies developing strong appetite is good but when do we know when enough is enough? Puppies love to eat, for all we know and as long as there is food, they will try to accommodate them in their stomach. Often we find this funny, without knowing they can be good candidate for parvovirus infection. Overeating can lead to death. To avoid this, there are safety measures you must follow.

1. Feed them moderately. Schedule their meal and with consistent serving. Do this until they get used to it so they will not have to sniff around all the time when they are not munching anything. As pups they have faster metabolism so they tend to hunt for food every two hours. Although this is a fact, this must not be tolerated.
2. Serve them proteins. Proteins are basically what their body needs to sustain the energy. This mineral is found in meat, milk, and fish.
3. Monitor their health. You can give them the best care if you can allot time for regular medical checkup. This way, you will be able to know the details of your terrier puppies’ health – what to give them, what not to give them and how much. You will also have the opportunity to know if you pets have healthy weight or are already obese.

Spoiling your puppies is a way of expressing your love for them but you must also consider if this will be good or bad for them.
